Text Based Role Playing Games

The world of online gaming is huge and growing by the day. There are many reasons people are drawn to playing these massive multi-player online games. But one of the main reasons in my opinion, is the online communities it creates. There are literally 1000's of people playing a single game at anytime of the day. While playing these games you gain "friends" from all over the world, but in most cases you only know them by their game name.

There are many different types of role playing games online to choose from. Most people know the big ones out there (World of Warcraft, EverQuest..etc), but some of the least know online RPG's or the Text Based Role Playing Games. These games offer some captivating game play, without any animation or controls.

That's right there are no game graphics, you just type in or click on your commands or actions. The best part about these Text Based Role Playing Games is the online communities that they develop. Text based games tend to have much lower member numbers. Which helps make the communities tighter in these text based games. In these games it is not uncommon to know all most all the players in the game. This really adds to the game play, when you are playing with the same people every day.

There are quite a few text based role playing games out there. Some of my favorites are MafiaLife.com, Avalon and Legendary Tales. One of the best things about these games is that they are completely free to play, as are most all text based games. They mostly stay up and running threw advertisements and donations. The developers of these games are generally, Individuals and their online communities with a good imagination and a lot of time on their hands. These guys create some great text based role playing games, that are a blast to play and build really strong online communities.
