The first thing to consider when storing your vinyl is the direction. You should always store your vinyl records vertically. By storing them vertically, there is less stress on the record, ensuring that they don't bend over time. Vinyl should not be stored horizontally, especially under a pile of other records. The weight causes damage to the grooves, degrading the sound quality. Vinyl should not be allowed to lean either. This can cause it to warp, and you can imagine the difficulties this causes. One other tip, don't store records too tightly, even vertically, as this also puts pressure on the grooves, deforming them over time.

Vinyl should also be stored in a cooler portion of your house. Heat causes the records to get softer, and prone to bending and damage. You should never store your vinyl near a window or heater.

Also, take care to keep your vinyl away from humidity. Humidity eventually causes mold to grow, which can lead to damage to your record and cover sleeve. Treat your vinyl with respect! Don't throw it in your basement or attic for 20 years and expect them to come out looking good.

Vinyl should not be stored outside of its liner or sleeve. This can cause the record to get dirty, and more prone to scratches. Dirt is one of the main things that scratches records. In addition to dirt causing damage, exposed vinyl can be damaged by the sun's UV rays. This is another reason not to store your vinyl near a window or natural light source.

When handling your vinyl, the same rules apply as with CDs. Be careful to handle the record only by its edges. Don't be careless with the record in hand, if it drops, you could cause a bad scratch, causing the record to skip.

If you don't have an automatic turntable, be gentle with the stylus (needle). Don't set it down too heavily. Be mindful while the record is playing: Try not to shake the turntable.

Lastly, when you're done playing your record, you should return it to its sleeve.

When your records get dirty, it's a good idea to clean them. Cleaning records doesn't have to be done very often if you treat your records with care, but it's not a bad idea once a year if you listen to a record more than a few times in that year. If you have some distilled water and isopropyl alcohol, you can do a great job cleaning your records.

Here's what you do: Mix up one part 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and four parts distilled water. Add 5-6 drops of dishwashing (non-moisturizing) soap to the mixture. Next, apply the solution to a clean paper towel. Stroke the paper towel across the records, moving with the grooves. Repeat if necessary. Next, rinse the record with more distilled water. Dry with a clean towel. After the record has dried, place it in a brand new paper sleeve, and put it back in its cover. Paper sleeves can be purchased on the internet and ebay, as well as in local record and audio shops.

If you're a baller, you can always buy a Nitty Gritty, which is a machine that sucks dust off your records. This system works very well, is very easy, and will help you clean a large vinyl collection. These machines are pretty expensive, but worth it if you have a large collection and listen to a lot of music.

What are Emulators?

Emulators offer the only solution for gamers who just want to relive the classics they grew up with.

Well, nothing is perfect. The ESA has made it illegal (and often times impossible) to download some ROMs, making it difficult to find the game you're looking for. They make it illegal on the grounds that the Wii's Virtual Console is designed to let you relive your childhood by selling you yesterday's technology at today's prices. Oftentimes the companies that made these original games are no longer in existence and are definitely not making any more money from sales of the game itself. So, buy the game on virtual console if you wish, but we prefer the comfort of our computers. There's nothing quite like the ability to save your state at any point in the game with a Project 64 rom. The correct usage of the term would be to place the word referring to what the person is obsessed about before the word otaku (e.g., anime otaku or manga otaku). Most people think that this term refers exclusively to anime addicts and manga addicts. But in reality, otaku can refer to anything, from anime to the military.

There are some common types of otaku in Japan and in the world, and these are the anime otaku, the manga otaku, the pasokon otaku, the gemu otaku, the wota, and the gunji otaku.

Anime Otaku

Often people assume that playing computer games or video games is a very anti social activity, and is a solo activity which isolates an individual from the real world, cuts them off from other people and then allows them to sit on their own in a small dark room hitting keys over and over again in order to mindlessly destroy anything that moves on their screen. In fact, nothing could be very much further from the truth, and in fact those people who play computer games on their own, completely cut off from interaction with other people in any way are such a minority group it may prove hard to find anyone to actually put in to it.

Quite apart from not being a solo activity, recent research has found that over 66% of people who play computer or video games do so with their friends, either sat with them advising, or actually with a second handset competing in the same game. 30% of gamers play with their brothers or sisters and a quarter of all gamers play with either their parents or their partners. This completely goes against the argument that most people lay on their own, and shows that the majority of people play as a social game, in various combinations and ways.

Even taking in to account that there may be 20% to 30% of people who do play games without someone else being physically with them, it is still not possible to generalise isolation by suggesting that these people are cut off from any kind of social interaction. As I sit here watching my friend play the game Dirt on the XBOX360, I admire just how realistic looking it is and how easily my grandparents could be fooled into thinking they were watching an actual race.

I'm reminded of the first console I ever had, which was a Super Nintendo. I played the regular Nintendo at my friend's house, but when I got to the age that my parents deemed appropriate to play video games, Super Nintendo had just come out. My friends and I would spend hours playing Super Mario, Double Dragon and Street Fighter. I also became a huge fan of RPGs thanks to the Super Nintendo's classic library of Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy III, Super Mario RPG, Lufia I & II and more that I can't think of right now.

My generation (people who are around the age of 21) was, as I see it, born in just the right time to experience the humble roots of video games and can see how far they've come today. My parents and their peers aren't included because they don't appreciate video games as much as us and didn't grow up playing them like we did.

This can apply to anything technological; I didn't get a cell phone until high school and there are kids in elementary school with theirs glued to their ears; maybe that's an exaggeration, but the point is I can remember life before cell phones and it involved a lot of collect calls made from the food court of the mall. Or when my family got its first computer; Windows hadn't even come out yet and the only interesting game was solitaire, which was more fun than trying to get connected to the internet back then.

People in middle and high school grew up after Nintendo and 32-bit consoles and played N64 and Playstation. Although those graphics can't compare to today's consoles, the jump isn't as big as it is going from Contra to Halo 3. Maybe spoiled is too harsh of a word, unappreciative might describe younger gamers a little better. But it will probably be even worse in the later generations that follow when graphics on the next consoles for Sony and Microsoft are the norm and games like NBA Jam and Frogger are going to be as ancient as the Dead Sea Scrolls.

I can't wait to see what new advancements take place in the gaming world in future years; though it may sound strange, I approach this predicament of non appreciative gamers as a society would hope to preserve its culture, because like it or not, video games are a big part of many people's lives, and not in a bad way. So keep your old Nintendo games (except ET, that goes to the landfill) and every now and then pop in a copy of Battle Toads and enjoy it with your friends because it's up to our generation to make sure classic games on the old systems are never forgotten.

Role playing games were originally born out of simple role playing exercises that people performed. Role playing often had origins in theater, with people taking on the persona of a character and adopting that personality, background, and motivation as their own. Staying in this character, they would perform a series of events to complete the tasks assigned to them.

This idea eventually grew into gaming, with players taking on the persona of a certain character and fulfilling the objectives of the game, creating a story as they progressed. Each one of the characters used has a characterization and a certain set of skills that match the role, and by adopting this character, players are given the chance to participate in a story adventure in a unique way.

In the late 19th Century and early into the 20th, a series of parlor games were produced that incorporated elements of role playing. One popular game, called Jury Box, recreated a mock trial for players to participate in. This game, and others like it, proved to be quite popular and paved the way for more role playing games to be marketed. Historical re-enactment groups took role playing another step further in the 1960s, by hosting "creative history" games, which largely re-enacted historical events with some small fantasy elements incorporated into the event.

There was a lot of hype surrounding this game, and plenty of people were eager to play it. The problem with that is that the game didn't really hold up to all of that hype.

This is not to say that this online game review is here to bash this new game; it wasn't that bad. It was just bland. After you listen to people and media saying all kinds of great things about something, you start to think this is going to be super-awesome, or at least something you've never experienced before.

But there was nothing about this game that was new, incredible, or breathtaking. There were some parts you could get excited about, and it was fun. It's a decent game that could have been a GREAT game if the rest of it was a lot more like those parts.

If you find another Hellgate London review and it says the game was blow-your-brains-out fantastic, or that it even lived up to the public's expectations, they're lying. It's kind of like buttering up your girlfriend or boyfriend instead of telling them that they did something dumb, because you don't want their feelings to be hurt.

One of the other weak points of this game is the ultra confusing stats. It's hard to keep track of each and every weapon doing different kinds of damage. Even so, it's pretty cool to see that it's possible to do different kinds of attacks.

One of the neatest things that I will include in this Hellgate London review is that you are now able to break down items to save on space in your inventory, and you're able to suck up your gold like a vacuum. Which is about as cool as it gets. Remember, if Hellgate London doesn't do it for you.

Boxhead - The Zombie Wars Review

The Boxhead series has pretty much been the same the whole way through. Kill zombies. Only a few things has changed since the beginning. The introduction of a health bar instead of a 'one hit and you're dead' system and the introduction of new enemies such as the demon. Boxhead: The Zombie Wars follows in the same way. New features, better graphics and more weapons. Let's begin.

Boxhead: The Zombie Wars is the fifth game in the flash series. You still have your favourite weapons from the previous games and the addition of a few more. They are a mounted turret that you put down and they shoot the enemies for you. A barricade that just protects you. An interesting feature of this is the fact it has its own health bar. So does the turrets. A minigun that fires bullets extremely fast. Grenades that you throw at the zombies and kill them and airstrikes, well I actually haven't ever gotten this far but the description says it devestates masses of zombies in a single blow. Wow! For those who haven't played any of the other Boxhead games, here are the descriptions for the rest of the weapons. The pistol is a basic weapon with unlimited ammo. The shotgun is stronger but has limited ammo. The barrels explode when shot at. The rocket launcher fires rockets (My personal favourite!). Unfortunately the Uzi isn't present in this game but it is replaced by the minigun which is about a hundred times better!

There are multiple types of zombies. Normal zombies which are weak and have no special abilities. They just walk towards you. The mummies that appear out of the ground. The runners which run after you. The demons that shot massive fireballs at you. Please avoid him! The vampires that can teleport around the course and hit you anywhere.

The graphics have had a HUGE revamp from the previous games. Before they were just bright and blocks and now its actually outside with trees and rocks and grass!

There are 4 difficulty levels from beginner to nightmare. The difficulty levels just start you off at a higher level and a higher score multiplier. When you kill an enemy the multiplier goes up one and it slowly goes down. It goes down faster the more of the multiplier you have.

There are really any flaws. I really only noticed a funny bit with the character. His head slightly tilts to the left and it makes him look funny! :)

To sum it up, Boxhead: The Zombie Wars is a great game to play if you have the chance. It is at the Official Boxhead website so go check it out and look at the other Boxhead games! I'll give it a 9.5/10!

Astro Avenger 2 is the sequel to the 3D space shooter from Sahmon Games. In this arcade installment, you take the role of a lone space craft off to fend aliens in a quest to vanquish their big bad mother ship. And to do just that, you seriously need some firepower, right? Well, fortunately, that's what you will get.

The objective of the game is for you to use your mouse buttons to fire lasers and shoot rockets at incoming enemy fleets. Use your mouse also to maneuver your space craft and evade enemy artillery. What I liked about the controls is how they are very responsive to your every move, and with that, comes easy evasion on many of the incoming attacks.

While most of the time, you'll be shooting and evading, you'll also have to collect power-ups from time to time too. Power-ups will greatly increase your chances for survival and will sometimes even add plasma to your inventory. Basically, plasma is the money currency in the game, and you must collect plasma in order to upgrade your ship and weapons, or buy rockets and probes - little unmanned ships that aid you in battle.

Astro Avenger 2 is a fun game with great production values as you may see from the graphics and in-game music. Besides this, the game is very much challenging too since when I talk about hordes of enemies; you'll definitely encounter swarms and swarms of them flying towards you. Adding up the fact that you'll need to balance your energy use whenever using lasers, this game is definitely much more dynamic than your usual shoot-em-up.

But still, the game is still like any arcade shoot-em-up so besides from the awesome 3D graphics and creative boss battles, you will not encounter additional features or mini-games to play. That's fine by me though, because honestly, I play this game with the idea of blasting some space metal anyway, and in this criterion, the game successfully delivers.

Omnislash in Disc 1 is easiest to earn right after the Temple of the Ancients. I would recommend using Cloud for the Battle Arena since he is overall the best character between stats, weapons, and limits. Make sure to equip the Nail Bat and Ribbon on him. Note that the Nail Bat does not possess any Materia slots.

Next equip Cloud with an Armor with the most Materia slots possible without losing Defense or Magic Defense. Cloud will now possess average-high Attacks, well rounded Defense/Magic Defense, and immunity to basically all status ailments (thanks to the Ribbon). Having his Level 3 Limits is highly advised as well since they are powerful. Next onto Materia configuring.

Nail Bat: No Materia slots
Armor: Restore, HP Plus, Enemy Skill (Beta, Big Guard, White Wind, Magic Hammer), Odin

Now travel to the Gold Saucer Wonder Square to stock up on Gold Saucer Points (GP). Play the Bike Mini Game 10-20 times earning 100-200 GP. Since each try at the Battle Arena is 10 GP. So in turn each game successfully completed of the Mini Bike is equivalent to one try at the Battle Arena. Food for thought.

I play games. lots of games. Neverwinter Nights is probably one of my favourite even though I have never finished the first one nor its expansions.

I managed to get hold of Neverwinter Nights 2 and upgraded it all the to just before mask of the betrayor expansion I believe.

I would just like to introduce some tips and even some hints and cheats, if you dont mind.

Firstly, the MOST POWERFUL CHARACTER IN THE GAME IS A FIGHTER.

Why? Simple. You get loads of feats. you take power attack and a double handed weapon and then deal somewhere upwards of 100 points of damage on a critical. No other class can do this, not even that super intelligent mage with his fireball spell that peaks out at 10d6 (big thrill there)

No. Fighter definitely most powerful. Don't even need to prestige class, but some worth considering is the Weapon Master and the Frenzied Bezerker. That's what I'm playing, with a scythe as my favourite weapon.

Ok. Enough class talk, what about race?
Me, Human. Always. Elves can make surprisingly good rogues (don't need to walk slowly to spot traps) or a halfling - tall fellow (free feat)
And i almost always play a female - just better to look at.

Now the Dos and Dont's:

DON'T TRY AND MAKE ANY MAGIC ITEMS, pointless sin my opinion. Too hard to find the ingredients and too hard to build, but that's just me. I have a 15 ranks in weapon smith and cant make adimantiam weapons. go figure.

DONT PLAY EVIL: you actually gain xp for playing good guys and doing good things. Nice hey, give the good guys a cookie and scr*w the bad guys

If you an archer, when you buy arrows etc always by 1 less (I but 98 arrows for 1 gp where 99 costs me 5gp??? sort of works with magic ones too, lot cheaper)

Oh, the less party members you have the faster you will level (more xp) party should contain a rogue, druid or ranger (for talking to beasties). That's actually all you need, but a fighter is good too (esp if only druid and rogue).

Played on an 8 by 8 grid, players either play as the black or the white tiles and try to change the face of their opponent's tiles by strategic placement. The game starts with two tiles of each color being placed in the 4 central squares, each token being directly diagonal to the match.

The first player to move will then take a token of their own color and place it on the board next to a token of the opposite color, trapping the opponent's colored token between two pieces of the first player's color. When a colored game piece becomes trapped between two opposite colors, that player gets to flip the trapped piece and change it into their own color. By doing this, they start to claim game tokens for themselves. When the second player gets a chance to play, they place one of their own tokens onto the board, trapping one or more tokens of their opponent and therefore changing those colors to their own.

Game play continues in this fashion, changing as many of the opponent's colors as possible, until no possible moves are left on the board. When this happens, the game is over and the tokens on the board are counted. The player with more colored tokens on the board is declared as the winner of the match. Perspectives on Photovoltaics - Costs Decrease As Solar Cell Technology Advances

When it comes to photovoltaic (PV) cells, Wall Street is concerned primarily with established companies employing traditional silicon-based technologies. However, record high oil prices based on genuine long-term supply worries has Wall Street increasing its interest in companies developing other PV technologies and materials, because at least for the immediate future, all types of PV technologies will thrive. This is despite the fact that the price of polysilicon, a key material used in traditional silicon-based solar cells and semiconductors, is expected to come down within the next six months. Lower polysilicon prices would seem to dampen interest in alternative non-silicon PV technologies because of their lower efficiencies in harnessing solar energy.

In fact, it is easy to foresee a segmented industry with a dual focus. One segment would focus on silicon-based photovoltaics using rigid, bulky solar panels primarily in large-scale applications such as producing power for utilities. A second segment would focus on low-cost technologies based on nanomaterials and conductive polymers to provide flexible PV products for buildings with better efficiencies and aesthetics.

Silicon-based Photovoltaics

The generally higher efficiencies (12-22 percent) of rigid solar cells based on silicon technology have made silicon the photovoltaic of choice despite its relatively high manufacturing costs. One way to bring down cost is through a modified manufacturing process called silicon ribbon growth that reduces the number of processing steps to six from the nine used in conventional bulk silicon growth based on ingot technology. Evergreen Solar (www.evergreensolar.com), a recognized leader in the field, has been developing interesting manufacturing processes using ribbon silicon technology.

Regardless of whether silicon solar cells are based on ingot or ribbon growth manufacturing technologies, however, increasing energy conversion efficiency will always be an issue. One way to attain greater efficiency is to increase solar cells' spectral sensitivity by using broader or different regions of solar radiation, by better matching the solar emission and producing higher absorption coefficients, and by using a higher fraction of sunlight that eliminates losses through excessive heating of the silicon cell. For example, a 2004 patent, "High Efficient PN Junction Solar Cell" (US6696739B2) describes a solar cell showing improved energy conversion efficiency by minimizing the shading loss while reducing the manufacturing costs.

Still another way of lowering cost is through the technique of concentrated photovoltaics. Passive optical elements are used to concentrate sunlight onto photovoltaic cells resulting in more energy output while using fewer PV cells.

Thin Films and Plastic or Polymer-based Photovoltaics

The first generation PV cells, developed in the 1970s, used monocrystalline or polycrystalline silicon. These are the rigid panels most people think of whenever solar cells are mentioned. These PV cells are made of semiconductor wafers in glass and require complex manufacturing processes.

The second generation, developed in the '80s, is known as thin films. It still requires low-pressure, high-temperature film deposition and complex manufacturing processes. Cadmium telluride (CdTe) cells are the most successful technology of this generation because of their very high conversion efficiency combined with a bandgap that is very close to the theoretically calculated optimum value for solar cells under un-concentrated sunlight. This is also an ideal PV cell for use in concentrated photovoltaics.

The majority of these second-generation cells are placed on glass, so they remain rigid. However, Global Solar (www.globalsolar.com) announced in March 2008 that it has developed a proprietary process for manufacturing flexible thin-film copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) photovoltaic modules. While other companies produce CIGS on glass, Global Solar is thought to be the only company with CIGS on flexible materials. CIGS cells are deposited on a stainless steel backing which also makes them lightweight and durable.

Organic Solar Cells

Plastic or polymer-based photovoltaics, developed in the '90s, are considered third- generation solar cells. Also called organic solar cells, these cells use photoactive or photosensitive dyes and conducting polymers that can be manufactured at high speeds and low temperatures.

Manufacturing costs can be reduced as a result of using a low temperature process similar to printing instead of the high temperature vacuum deposition process typically used to produce the first and second generation cells. Reduced installation costs are achieved by producing flexible rolls instead of rigid crystalline panels.

Currently, third generation solar cells are not as efficient as the first- or second-generation cells, but their lower cost offsets this deficiency. In the long term, these materials should cost even less and, using quantum dots to decrease the bandgap of the base material, they should reach higher efficiency levels than conventional cells.

Efficiency Improvements Being Explored

University of Notre Dame researchers have shown that adding carbon nanotubes to a titanium dioxide film doubles the efficiency of converting ultraviolet light into electrons when compared with the performance of nanoparticles alone. (Titanium dioxide is a main ingredient in white paint.) Without the carbon nanotubes, electrons generated when light is absorbed by titanium dioxide particles have to jump from particle to particle to reach an electrode. Many never make it out to generate an electrical current. The carbon nanotubes provide a conduit for electrons for a more direct route to the electrode, improving solar cell efficiency.

Titanium dioxide, however, absorbs only ultraviolet light, leaving most of the visible spectrum of sunlight to be reflected rather than absorbed. In dye-sensitized solar cells, a one-molecule thick layer of light-absorbing dye is applied to the titanium dioxide nanoparticles to catch more of the spectrum. Another approach coats nanoparticles with quantum dots or nanocrystals, which act as tiny semiconductors. Unlike conventional materials in which one photon generates just one electron, quantum dots are able to convert high-energy photons into multiple electrons. Other ways of improving collection of electrons within a solar cell include forming titanium dioxide nanotubes or complex branching structures made of various semiconductors.

Emerging Leaders in Printed Photovoltaics

Konarka Technologies (www.konarka.com) recently announced the first demonstration of manufacturing solar cells by highly efficient inkjet printing. "Demonstrating the use of inkjet-printing technology as a fabrication tool for highly efficient solar cells and sensors with small area requirements is a major milestone," says Rick Hess, President and CEO at Konarka. "This essential breakthrough in the field of printed solar cells positions Konarka as an emerging leader in printed photovoltaics." Inkjet printing is commonly used for controlled applications of functional materials solutions in specific locations on a substrate (RFID tags, for example), and it can provide easy and fast deposition of polymer films over a large area. Another leader in organic or plastic solar cells (third generation PV) is Plextronics (http://www.plextronics.com), a company concentrating on printed electronics technology.

Konarka's Power Plastic technology is focused on delivering lightweight, flexible, scalable, and manufacturable products. The inkjet demonstration confirms that organic solar cells can be processed using printing technologies with little or no loss compared with clean-room semiconductor technologies, such as spin coating. Inkjet printing could become a smart tool to manufacture solar cells with multiple colors and patterns for lower-power requirement products, such as indoor or sensor applications.

According to Solar Cells Info (solarcellsinfo.com), by 2009 at the latest, Konarka plans to bring multiple forms of its product to market-everything from tiny cells for sensors to fabric-based (solar cells embedded in awnings, for example) and larger building panels. The process involves printing or coating nanoparticles such as quantum dots or nanocrystals onto other material. Hess says Konarka is currently working with U.S. Green Building Council LEED designers on custom installations.

Final Thoughts

On the environmental side, it is estimated that compared to fossil fuel electricity generation, each kW of installed solar PV power annually saves up to 25 kg (55 lbs) of nitrogen & sulfur oxides, and offsets 600 to 2300 kg (1300 to 5100 lbs) of carbon dioxide, depending on the fuel mix and solar insolation (Incident solar radiation). It is worth noting that only a few years ago, while oil prices were relatively low, the growth of interest in PV technologies was based mostly on the environmental concerns rather than the concern on exhaustion of fossil fuel reserves and the recent higher oil prices. It is now clear that the dual focus of PV technologies along with improving the efficiency and reducing costs of the various PV systems will ensure sustained growth in this industry.

My rules are written specifically for the game industry, but much of what I say here I think is very applicable to any and all businesses.

So take this experience and advice for what it is worth to you. A lot of what you'll read here is my own personal philosophy on business and the industry, and I'm sure it's not going to be ground breaking stuff since there have been so many successful people that have come out and started talking about this stuff. I am, however, hoping that it will add something to the thought process of the person out there that wants to run their own shop.

So let's get right into my list of rules.

My first rule is to Breed Success In Your Employees. Ok, what does that mean? This is something I hold very dear to my own business philosophy, which is why I listed it first. Challenge your people to grow. Challenge them to find ways to improve their lifestyle without depending on you and your checkbook. In my organization, I give weekly classes on success mindset training as well as content training on investing and business. I WANT my employees to become millionaires on their own. I WANT them to be able to quit and retire if they so choose.

Why would I possibly want that? It is simply because I want people that are on my team because they're passionate about what we're doing, not because I'm paying them. People that are successful and don't have the stress of their bills hanging over their head and the heads of their family members are happier, more energetic, more positive, and generally much more productive. Plus fostering that entrepreneurial spirit within them will make them more confident and they'll be more willing to share ideas that could make your project even better than it already is. Teach them how to find freedom and you'll build a team of truly passionate members, which will absolutely translate into the final product.

My second rule is Don't Burn the Fire Too Hot. Ok, it's absolutely a reality that in any creative industry, whether it's games or movies, you're going to have a "crunch time" period as the delivery date approaches. It's just going to happen. However, don't push your people too hard too quickly. If you're cracking the whip and your employees are working 55-60 hour weeks all the time, you're going to annihilate any chance of success you may have had.

People cannot work those conditions indefinitely. Once they've hit that eight hours, it's time to call it a day. In fact, if you keep pushing them to ten hour days, you're going to find yourself REGRESSING in the project rather than finding progress. People that are fatigued and burning out make way more mistakes and ultimately the quality suffers in a major way. If you treat them fairly under normal circumstances, they won't complain or burn out when the project is really on the line.

Third, Create a Rich Environment. Listen, working in a cubicle SUCKS. I know it does, I've done it. Your work area is vitally important and you want to make sure that you're building one that nurtures creativity and stimulation. I've always loved Pixar's approach to their project environments. Sure, they have cubicles and such, but Pixar goes to great lengths to create a fantastic environment internally for their people. So take the initiative and put the money into making a really cool environment. Something related to your project, and do it special for each project. Too many people overlook this and think it'd be too expensive, but the returns you'll get from your people in their attitude and creativity will more than make up for it.

Fourth, Study Your Subject Hands-On. This is another area that Pixar is a fantastic example. How can you expect a 3D modeler to make a proper sword if they've never held one? How can you expect your environment team to create a beautiful ocean environment if they've never been in one? Take money and invest it into hands-on education. Whatever it is, somehow get your people into the moment of what you're trying to do. If you're making a World War I flight combat game, go find somewhere that gives bi-plane rides. If you're working on some kind of fantasy RPG, take a trip to a museum or have a sword smith visit the office and let them handle the real deal. The details that will come out from these experiences may not appear visually to you or to them, but the end result will feel much more authentic and the attention to detail will get noticed.

Fifth, Protect Your Company's Reputation. This is HUGE. Never let anyone come out and make your business look bad publicly. You need to counter and rebut all accusations that might make others look at your company askance. Your reputation is everything. Remember, every single person working under the name of your studio is tied to its reputation. If someone comes out and makes a public claim that hurts your reputation, it hurts the reputation of every person under your roof. Defend it and defend them. That's one of your main jobs as a leader. Stand up for your people, they'll absolutely respect it and it's just the right thing to do.

So these are five of my rules. Like I said, there is nothing breathtaking or revolutionary here, just some basic, solid guidelines that I use in all of my business endeavors. The reign of the Xbox is almost over. As of late the PS3 has been looking better and better. Looks like 2008 will be the year of the PlayStation. PlayStation 3 has many big name titles coming out this year and if the all games from the list are all actually released this year, all we can say is WOW. Note: The following list in no way represents the entire list of exclusive titles for each console. However, it gives us a pretty good idea of the games rumored to be released this year.

PS3:

Resistance 2 (PS3)

Guaranteed success. While the first was a great game and fairly big success, it was still just a launch title. Imagine what they can do after a couple years and games under their belt. 8 player Co-Op! Expect big things from this game.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (PS3)

Another guaranteed success. Anyone who plays Gran Turismo will grab this game. If you're a fan, you're a fan. The visuals continue to improve, HD replays, 'nuff said!

Haze (PS3)

Hopefully the game will finally end it's long series of delays this year. This game promises some intense action, including 4-player co-op, drop-in, drop-out, split-screen, online, or local multiplayer options. The game continues to impress visually, with not only the quality of graphics, but the very cool, unique design elements.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)

Who doesn't know about this game? The game is still months away and is already epic. If any game could live up to the hype this game has garnered, leave it to Solid Snake, old or young. Like most of the games on this list, the visuals are amazing. The game looks to pack in an enormous amount of story and gameplay. The game features a immense arsenal of weapons and combat/stealth moves. If you own a PS3, you are almost required to buy this. You know you will.

SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3)

Still early on this title, few details have been released. The game will support up to 32 players online. Customizable weapons much like SOCOM 3. Also like the previous SOCOM games, the focus will be online multiplayer. Early word says this one will go the way of Warhawk, offering online only possibly with a bluetooth headset and all. After all, the original SOCOM kind of pioneered headset use on consoles.

LittleBigPlanet (PS3)

Possibly one of the most innovative, cute, and anticipated games of the year. Little Big Planet looks to expand the PS3 audience with this "build-your-own-game" game. Eat your heart out Nintendo Miis, this game looks great. The shear level of creativity allowed is staggering. The game also supports 4-player co-op and versus. Plus, it's kid friendly without being offensively cute.

God of War III (PS3)

The PS2 went out with a bang (though it's still hanging in there) with the original God of War, and most recently it's sequel, still on the aging console. People have been waiting for a true "next-gen" God of War experience and it looks as though 2008 is gonna be your year, possibly. Not much is know as of yet, however, the games creator, David Jaffe, is no longer working on the series so we'll just have to wait and see how everything turns out.

Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) - Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)

You're either a fan, or you're not, though, you've got to recognize the scale of the Final Fantasy franchise. The games continue to set graphical standards with every release. The next, XIII, looks to make good on their reputation. Not only are they again improving every visual, and storytelling aspect of the game, they are overhauling the combat as well. The combat in Final Fantasy XIII promises the speed up and intensify the battles.

MotorStorm 2 (PS3) [Teaser Trailer]

Another sequel to a previous PS3 exclusive, MotorStorm 2 hasn't revealed much, but from the trailer we can expect yet another pre-rendered bar set too high for them to reach with in-game graphics. Don't get me wrong, the original looked great, but the video they showed a year earlier looked 10-times better. This was the prettiest of all the racers for a while, but we'll see how the sequel compares to the likes of Gran Turismo 5 HD later this year. Some of the improvements include new cars/trucks/motorcycles, tracks, and best of all, a much needed 4-player split-screen mode. The game's also said to include 16-player online support.

Killzone 2 (PS3)

So, video and screenshots have shown just how good the game really looks in action. But what about gameplay? The original was not exactly praised by critics, though I quite enjoyed it (minus the large number of glitches). It definitely wasn't the "Halo Killer" it was touted as. The sequel will have to really prove itself in such a crowded shooter market. Guerrilla Games has yet to reveal any real details on gameplay, i.e. co-op, multiplayer, customization? The game sure does look good though. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

XBOX 360:

Ninja Gaiden II (360)

Finally on to the Xbox 360, I thought we'd never get here. Ninja Gaiden II, the first official, true sequel, promises to up everything that made the original so popular. More action, more bad guys, more blood (almost too much), and more speed. The game's creators have also addressed the difficulty issues some (many) had with the other games. They've said that without dumbing it down, they will be changing the controls in order to improve and lessen the frustration to newcomers. They're also adding new weapons to the game and a ton of new character animations to keep the visuals fresh.

Too Human (360)

An epic in the making, Too Human is already set to be part of a trilogy. Everyone loves a trilogy. They've created an enormous world with a unique technology and organic design. The game is built on story, including a very ambitious new dynamic camera system that's supposed to always give you the best view of the action during gameplay. The game also features a plethora of RPG elements to keep you interested. As with most RPGs you can upgrade almost everything, from weapons, to armor, to special abilities that extend your combat. The game also features a unique combat system, using the right analog stick for both melee and ranged attacks.

Fable 2 (360)

Sequel to a game that was a giant leap in artificial intelligence, Fable 2 looks to surpass it's predecessor in every way. The ultimate choice between good and evil. This time your options are even greater. Similar to another Lionhead game, Black & White, the player will be given a pet in order to help you throughout the game, and also as a friend you can bond with. Peter Molyneux, the games creator has said he wants the game to get the player emotionally involved. Just a guess, but you can probably expect that your dog will eventually die. In addition to a game with conscience, the game is one of the first games to introduce money into the game before it's release. That's right, you can begin earning gold to spend in Fable 2 before the game ever hits store shelve, thanks to downloadable arcade games on Xbox Live.

Banjo-Kazooie 3 (360)

Very little is know of Bajo-Kazooie 3, if that is in fact it's name. Rare, the company developing the game, released a short teaser trailer back in September 2006. It really didn't show any gameplay, however, it did show a new boxy art style you can see in the screenshots above. You can expect the regular Bajo-Kazooie platform elements, collect everything in sight, teamwork to reach different areas and beat different enemies, and large open worlds. The Xbox 360 isn't exactly known for having many platformers, so this will be a welcome addition. The last time we had a Banjo game was back on the N64.

Gears of War 2 (360)

Do I really have to say anything? Gears of War 2. You knew they would make it. The first was such a huge success, it actually beat Halo for top online multiplayer game, if only because it was the last-gen Halo 2. The game features everything new the Unreal Engine 3 has to offer. More enemies on screen, more destruction, more realistic lighting, and more chainsawing action. Another emergence day awaits us this fall.

Halo Wars

Halo isn't dead! At least the Halo universe isn't. Halo Wars is the first Halo game that isn't a Halo game. It's a real-time strategy. While the game isn't being developed solely over at Bungie, it is being developed from the ground up for the Xbox 360 and console gameplay. Meaning they've supposedly solved some of the problems that plague many real-time strategy games on consoles. Did you know that Halo was originally a real-time strategy game being developed for the Mac? It's true.

Splinter Cell: Conviction (360)

The next step for Sam Fisher looks remarkably similar to a Bourne Identity type game. That said, it still looks great. They've dropped the green eyed goggles in exchange for a man bag (ala Jack Bauer), hoodie, and beard, and they've got a stripped down and dirty, raw, Splinter Cell game where you're now a fugitive from the law. The new game looks to change more than Sam's fashion, focusing on what Ubisoft is calling "All new improvisation-based gameplay". Where your inventory is actually the world around you, pick up and throw chairs, etc. Use crowds to your advantage, similar to Assassin's Creed. This could be a great way to freshen up the series, or it could go too far from it's roots and lose fans.

Left 4 Dead (360)

Zombies, Co-Op, Valve, Source, 'nuff said. The "43 in Left 4 Dead actually means something, it's not just l337 speak. That's right, 4-player co-op for a zombie first person shooter. A lot of people have high expectations for this one, and it looks like it could live up to them. Not a fan of being human, well they've got you covered. You can choose to play as a zombie, or "infected" as they're called in the game. There are a number of different types of zombies each with different strengths and weaknesses. The brain eating should commence around October.

Alan Wake (360)

Do you like psychological thrillers? Alan Wake is a presented as more of a "movie" like game than a traditional action game. They're officially calling it a "psychological action thriller". The game has been in development for a while now (it won GameSpy's Best of E3 2005) and claims to have a 2008 release date, we'll see. It looks beautiful, the developer's have spent a lot of time on really capturing the mood of a thriller. They've included full realtime day-to-night lighting and weather effects.

Folklore Review - A Magical Adventure

Folklore is a PlayStation 3 exclusive video game that will probably get lost due to the Orange Box madness, but I will try to shed some light on the game. The game is developed by Sony and published by Game Republic. Judging by the title of the game, it is fairly obvious that Folklore is a role playing game. The storyline in the game transpires in Doolin, and Doolin is a village in Ireland. Mysticism and the supernatural beings are a few of many things that haunt this village. There are two protagonists in the game named Ellen and Keats. They are immersed in an eccentric environment that is imbued with spirits and "ghosts."

Both of the playable characters in the game have separate objectives. Ellen goes to Doolin in search of her mother because she has supposedly sent a letter to Ellen (sounds eerily similar to the dead wife letter that was sent to Harry from Silent Hill 2). On the other end of the spectrum, Keats is a journalist who travels to Doolin to learn about the strange occurrences that are taking place. I found the plot to be enjoyable, but the game has a storyline that can take some time to develop. The gameplay in the game has two different settings.

A location known as The Netherworld is where the combat occurs, and the normal world is where gamers will be achieving typical role playing game tasks. When gamers are in the normal world, they will be collecting items and having conversations with various people. The normal world provides a nice change of pace from the combat. Each character's gameplay is broken down into chapters. To eliminate confusion, it is best to complete one chapter with one character and go replay that chapter again with the other character. For instance, finishing Keats' chapter first and replaying the same chapter with Ellen. I felt like the game progressed in a much more cohesive manner when I took this approach. You can mix and match chapters by playing multiple chapters from Ellen's perspective, but doing this would make the plot completely garbled. The gameplay predominately consists of acquiring souls. All of the adversaries have souls that can be absorbed and used for later use. Since each soul you gain varies, the abilities you gain is also different.

For example, one soul can perform an ice elemental damage and another can utilize electricity. Once you take in a soul, you can map if to the four face buttons on the PlayStation 3 controller. Not all souls are proficient in eradicating every foes; furthermore, you cannot expect to beat the entire game with only one sul. There are strengths and weaknesses for each opponent in the game. This makes the game somewhat balanced, but gratuitously time consuming. Personally, I found the guess and check system of finding the correct soul to kill opponents to be rather convoluted. The method needed to capture a soul is unique on its own right. This is where the six axis controller is at its best. The six axis controller is amazing for getting a soul under control, and the controls itself are intuitive. The game developers of the disaster known as Lair should meticulously take notes from the game developers that worked on Folklore. Do you hear me Lair game creators? You guys can learn so much about the six axis controller from the team that worked on Folklore. If anyone who worked on Lair is reading this, then he or she needs to give the game designers of Folklore a phone call and have a long chat about how to make the six axis controller responsive. Look at me going off on one of my tangents again. Alright, back to the review of Folklore. The frame rates appears to be smooth, but I had a problem with the prolonged load times.

Regrettably, the audio in the game is utterly ridiculous. A majority of the dialogue is shown via a comic book style. If this comic book style of story telling is tastefully done, then it works to perfection (ala Max Payne and Max Payne 2). The most egregious aspect of the dialogue is that there is absolutely no voice acting during these absurd comic book style segments. I thought the lack of voice acting was an enormous blunder in the game. There should always be voice acting in a next generation console video game (especially considering the fact that this is a PlayStation 3 video game). During the major cut scenes, there is voice acting.

Unfortunately, the voice acting is horribly done. Folklore pales in comparison in the voice acting department to other exquisite video games such as Heavenly Sword, Halo 3, God of War, and God of War 2. What the hell Sony? How could the audio in Folklore be this poorly executed? The only saving grace with the audio is the music and sound effects. Luckily, the visuals in the game are incredible. Everything that is seen in Folklore makes it seem like a fantasy. The vibrant colors looks like an extravagant piece of artwork. Environments, flora, and fauna are well designed. Folklore will take gamers approximately nineteen hours from beginning to end. Overall, Folklore is a solid role playing game. It is not as brilliant as Oblivion on the PlayStation 3, but Folklore has just enough to give gamers a reason to play.

There isn't a single thing I dislike about this game. At times the puzzles can be tough to figure out, but the game is so much fun that I can't lose my patience in figuring them out! With unlimited "lives" the game lets you try again and again until you find the right course. Each character uses a different tool or weapon, so you end up utilizing all of the available characters (over 60 of them!) at some point during the game.

When I finished playing the game, I wanted to play it again! Another great thing about this game is that there are two modes of play: Story Mode and Freeplay Mode. Once you play through the story, you have the option of going back into each level and playing with a variety of characters. More secrets are available upon the second time through, including secret, unlockable characters!

This game made me laugh out loud on several occasions! The creative re-creations of certain key scenes from the films are hilarious!

I recommend this game because it's so much fun! It is honestly one of the most fun games I've ever played. Alone or with a partner, this game provides hours of entertainment!

My husband and I are both in our late 20s, so this game is just perfect for us. We grew up on these films (and after playing Lego Star Wars, we just had to give this one a try), but we also enjoy playing these games with our nieces and nephews who can appreciate the Lego humor, too. When LeBron James throws it down with an incredible dunk, the crowd will get up from their seats and give a standing ovation. The game is a phenomenal basketball simulation, and gamers will see everything they would see if they were watching a real NBA game.

For instance, the Phoenix Suns will attempt to speed the game up by playing a fast break offense. Conversely, the San Antonio Spurs will try to slow it down and utilize the shot clock. The street mode is back, but it is not as engrossing as the season gameplay. There is even a Tim Donaghy gambling training mode where you can gamble your life away. Moreover, the Isaiah Thomas sexual harassment gameplay element is excellent. I am obviously being facetious, but I would not be surprised if something like that could be playable in the game.

In all seriousness, NBA 2K 8 does a fantastic job of appeasing NBA aficionados. Clearly, the NBA 2K franchise has always been several dunks ahead of the NBA Live series and NBA 2008. This season is no exception to that rule. If anyone is looking for a pure basketball simulation, then NBA 2 K8 is the answer.

The other day a Think Tank was asked why do so many people think technology is evil? Perhaps because the computer has been linked to the mark of the beast. In fact, there was once a computer named "The Beast" as it was so massive and had enough capacity to keep track of every world transaction, today most large corporations have such systems, no big deal.

One commenter stated that he believed that people who thought technology was evil in the present period were themselves stuck in a rut and he hinted that if we listen to them, then we are all going to be stuck in a rut, as computers and technology help solve many of the problems known to mankind. When considering this I stated to the gentleman:

I must agree that those who call technology evil, are really stuck in a rut and they hurt the forward progression of the human race. Generally those I have discussed this topic with either come from a strict religious standpoint or have a theory that man needs to go back to its roots, and gathering, hunting activities to better live a less stressful and more meaningful life, go back up into the tree tops so to speak. I find fault with both of these categories of technology detractors.

Unfortunately, sometimes there is a piling affect of people who hear their debates and without thinking accept it as some sort of common sense and that is when the problems start. Technology is not evil and guns do not kill people, neither do inert rocks, sticks or steel swords. Please think on this.

Ive always loved video games, ever since I first played them on a friends computer in the afternoon after elementary school. Theres something almost magical about the fact that we can move images around and interact with virtual worlds, a living fantasy presented for us to interact with however we please. Ive also always wanted to make games myself but, until recently, didnt have the technical knowledge to do so. Now, Im a second year software engineering student, so if I werent able to code a game without too many dramas thered be something drastically wrong. But what about the common person: the person for whom the term memory leak conjures up images of their grandfather, pipeline is where the water flows, and blitting is unheard of? Well, everyone can get in on the game creation process, and you dont even need to learn real programming to do so.

So where do games start? With an idea. Games, like all fiction, require an idea to be successful. Sure, in the same way you can just sit down and write a story without foresight, you can jump on in and slap a game together. However, unless you get ridiculously lucky, the best works are usually the ones that have been well thought out beforehand.

There are two methods of planning a project. You can start from a known technological standpoint and build your project on top of that or you can just go for the design, add as many features and ideas as you like, and then remove the ones that you cant use when youve decided on the technology youre going to implement the game with. In general, the second type is probably the best one to go with when designing games. When youre first starting out however, the first option will save you many headaches.

So, for a first game youre going to want a pretty simple idea. Dont get me wrong, crazy-go-nuts game ideas are fantastic, and there should be more of them out there, but youre not going to be able to create a real world simulator with fifty billion virtual people all interacting real time with your actions having a butterfly effect on the future of the virtual universe when its just your first game. Really. Many people try it; none that I know of have succeeded. Imitation is the best way to start out. Simple games such as Space Invaders, Tetris, Pacman or even Pong are great places to start. All are largely simple to create but have some inherent challenges. Pacman for example, requires path finding for the ghosts. I recommend that you start even simpler than that for your very first attempt. Space Invaders is a nice point to jump in. You can make a simple, complete game without much effort and its almost infinitely extensible.

If youre stuck for an idea, pick a genre that you enjoy. Do you love adventure games such as Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Space Quest, Kings Quest etc.? Design one of those. Are you into fighting games like Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat and so on? Come up with an idea for that. Do you like first person shooters such as Quake, Half Life or Doom? I dont recommend it as a first project, but you can always give it a go. Feel free to be as generic as you like, this is a learning experience after all.

Now that you have your idea its time to flesh it out. Dont worry about the technology or the fact that you may not know how to actually implement a game just yet, just grab yourself some paper and a pencil and go crazy with ideas. Describe the main characters, game play, goals, interactions, story, and key mappings, anything you can think of. Make sure you have enough detail so that someone can read through the notes and play through the game in their head with relative accuracy. Changing game design during the coding process is almost always a bad idea. Once its set, it should remain set until the tweaking phase (Ill go into this more later) or youre likely to enter development hell, where the project goes on and on; more and more work is done with less and less outcome.

At the end of this period of your game creation, you should have the following:

- A written outline of the games characters and possibly a sketch or two (be they space ships, yellow circles, cars or the prince of the dark kingdom of Falgour, you need to know who or what the player will be and who they will compete against)

- A written outline of the story (if there is one, this isnt too vital for Space Invaders or Tetris, but for Uber Quest: An Adventure of Awesomeness its a really good idea)

- A description of game play, written or storyboarded. Storyboards are visual representations of ideas. Draw your characters in actions, with arrows showing the flow of action and short written descriptions detailing the events occurring in your image (because some of us arent fantastic artists and our images can be a little open to interpretation)

Now that you have a fleshed out idea, its time to work out how this will all get put together. If youve gotten to this point and are worried that youre going to have to spend years learning complex programming languages in order to implement your idea, fear not! Others have already done the hard yards for you. There are many RAD (Rapid Application Development) Tools available for game creation, a number of which are available for free online. Some of them still require you to learn a scripting language (a simplified programming language made for a specific task) but in general this isnt too complicated or involved. Ive compiled a brief list of some of these I have found at the end of the article. The free ones are listed first, organized by game genre.

Well, that should be enough to get you started in the creation of your game. The most important thing to remember once youve gotten this far is that you need to complete your game. Many people start a project and then lose interest and it fails, or they keep moving on to one new project after another without finishing anything. Start small, build a working (if simple) game that is, above all else, complete. When you get to this stage you will always have a huge number of things that you wish to change, fix etc. but youll get a great feeling from knowing that it is, in its way, finished.

From this point, you can start the tweaking phase. Play your game a few times and ask others to do the same. Take note of what isnt fun or could be better and change things here. At this stage, it is more important than ever to keep backups of previous versions so that if a change doesnt work you can go back and try something different without losing any of your work. It is at this point that you can add all new features, improve graphics and sounds, whatever you please, safe in the knowledge that youre working on a solid foundation.

When youre happy with your game, why not share it with the world? There are many cheap or free places out there for you to host your files on and then you can jump on link lists and forums and let everyone know about your creation. Well, I hope that this has been a helpful introduction into the art of creating games. Its a great deal of fun, and can open whole new avenues of creative expression for you to explore. Rock Band And Novelty In Gaming

This game is a landmark. In years to come, we will look back at this game and see that this, along with Wii Fit, became the point where it all changed.
But for the life of me, I can't see what these changes are, positive or negative.

I have no doubt in my mind that both Rock Band and Wii Fit are fun. Let's not confuse my writing with that of a negative review of these games. For me these games are the catalyst for something much more.

For anyone who doesn't know, Rock Band has the same basic music concept as Guitar Hero. Coloured bars fall from the top of the screen in time with the music, and you have to hit the corresponding colour while strumming your guitar. Except Rock Back have also added a drum kit peripheral, and a singing part, which works much the same as Sing Star for the PS2. And Wii Fit is a series of mini games, all using the Balance Board peripheral, a flat quadrangle split into four pressure sensitive areas. This is all dressed up into a miracle fitness regime, in which you can have fun and lose weight.

I'm not entirely sure why these games cause such an unsettling feeling in my stomach, but they do.

For a minor history lesson, I can tell you firstly that these types of games have been around for a very long time. The guitar peripheral concept has been around in a franchise called Guitar Mania, and so too has the idea of a drum peripheral, in Drum Mania. These are not the only, and probably not the first examples, but they are the most well known after Guitar Hero. These games were limited mostly to arcades. Western arcades have all but died, whereas in Japan these machines still prevail (there's one being used in Lost in Translation), but that's another rant for another time. The Wii Balance Board is a relatively new idea, but having its roots in the Joyboard, a peripheral released in 1982. The peripherals on offer are not a new thing, so no, it's not that that's bothering me.

Large peripherals for controlling games have been around as long as games themselves. Nintendo's Robotic Operating Buddy for example. They have always had the major problem of costing an absolute bomb, especially in the light of regular priced games. 70 on Wii Fit, or 40 on GTA IV? A full Rock Band setup is going to set you back in the region of 150. That's a heavy hit for a video game, but you can buy the different parts separately, making your wallet take a slightly less insulting blow, but a blow nonetheless. But gamers do have a large disposable income, so I don't doubt for a minute that people will pay this price, even if it leaves a slightly bitter taste in their mouths, so no, it's not that that's bothering me, either.

I think, and this is a concept very deeply rooted within my brain, like a psychiatric disorder, that these games signal the next wave of novelty gaming (pejorative). I'm not sure I see myself as a "hard-core" gamer. I don't feel the need to play games' expert modes, for example. But I will strive for 100% completion, and I will attempt to play the best possible game of Halo/Super Smash Bros./Ikaruga/Guitar Hero that I can possibly play, ever motivated towards perfection. And what I see these novelty games as, is an influx of the casual gamer. We've already had a huge influx of the casual gamer in the DS and Wii, and we can already see the repercussions of that. Shelf after shelf of movie and TV tie-in games; poorly produced bilge in the attempt to make a quick buck out of the nave and gullible.

People had fun playing Wii Sports and Wii Play, so 3rd parties produce more compilations of sports and mini games. People enjoyed brain training, and so we have a catalogue of third party brain training software.

OK granted, it's going to be fairly hard for a third party company to create a clone of Rock Band that people will actually be stupid enough to buy; this game seems pretty contained in itself. But it will still bring a lot of new gamers to the fold, and these new gamers are eventually going to get bored of Rock Band and want another game. Off they pop down to Game (...don't get me started on Game) to buy another game, and what are they more likely to walk out with? The Orange Box? Bio Shock? No, Iron Man, or the Lost video game, because as a new gamer, the only concepts they have in their mind are from other media, and they feel more comfortable spending their cash on a concept they are aware of, than the "unheard of" Crackdown.

But I think more than this, the thing that is getting me the most exasperated, is that for video games to finally get the world-wide recognition that they have been denied for so long, we have had to rely on novelty: The Wii and DS, and games with crazy peripherals. Like a circus clown with a trumpet running up to you in the street, shouting "Video games are fun! You see, look! Su Doku!"

Most Need For Speed fans will know what I'm talking about when I refer to the most wanted game of 2005. The Need For Speed franchise has been reborn with the release of Need For Speed Most Wanted (NFSMW) on the 15th of November this year in the U.S. Fans could not stop talking about all the fantastic features of this game and the Internet was swarmed with headlines about this great title. But what is the buzz all about? What makes this title so exceptional? Take a quick tour with me and you will find out.

The main attraction of Need For Speed Most Wanted, is the return of the high speed, police chases that was introduced in the very first instalment of the series and perfected in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. But the police chases is far more complicated that fans had become accustomed to in previous versions of the game. The cops are much more aggressive, more skilled and better equipped. Don't think you can tune your ride to be the fastest and beat the police with speed, they have some serious stuff under the hood and skilled drivers behind the wheel.

Damage models also make a return. You can completely destroy a cop's car while your own car can only be damaged visually by means of broken windows and damaged paint. Almost everything in the free roaming world can be destroyed and used to your advantage during a cop chase. Drive through a gas station, or remove the pillars of a shop's roof and see what happens to the cops. The traffic models have also been improved and they are still as annoying as in all the other Need For Speed titles, but the game will not be so much fun without this annoyance factor. The surrounding world detail has also received huge attention. HDRR (High Dynamic Range Rendering) pushes the graphics to new heights and that is one of the main reasons why the game plays off during the day and not at night like in the Underground series.

The speed-breaker is a nice innovation of EA to help players control their cars during the high-speed chases. The speed-breaker is much like the bullet-time feature of games like Max Payne and Total Overdose. One thing that may disappoint fans is the fact that the customisation of the cars is much more limited than in the Underground series. You can only modify your spoiler, hood, roof scoops and window tinting. You can purchase complete body kits that will adjust your muffler tips, headlights, etc. automatically to fit in with the specific kit you chose. You can still paint your car, add vinyls, put decals on your ride and paint your rims (but not your brake callipers). Painting your car and changing its visual appearance is vital to your success in the game. This will help you evade the cops by bringing your heat level down after each visual upgrade, or change you make to your ride.

All your performance upgrades are still available in the game and you unlock more powerful upgrades as you progress through the game. The only limitation with performance upgrades is that you no longer can choose the brands of your parts, they are pre-selected with each upgrade. EA also dropped the fairly complicated tuning of Underground 2 and brought back the simple slider tuning that was introduced in earlier titles. You only move the relevant slider to the left or right to modify your car's handling, steering speed, height, acceleration, down-force, top speed, braking, turbo and nitrous booster. This should be welcomed by gamers because they are no longer frustrated by hours complicated tuning to get the most out of their rides. The emphasis of this game is becoming the most notorious street racer and that is why EA shifted from the tuner theme to the cop-chase theme.

There are over 30 cars to choose from, including tuners, street-cars, muscle cars, sport models and exotics. Each and every car can be tuned and upgraded for maximum performance. You will find that cash is a limited resource and you need to upgrade and buy strategically. You also get the chance to win your rival's car by winning his pink slip after each challenge. But before you can challenge a blacklist member you first need to achieve a number of race wins and milestones to build respect among the racers and prove you are worthy of racing against them.

The music continues the Underground attitude, but the high-speed cop-chases introduce a brand new innovation: interactive music. The interactive music gives the game a cinematic feel. The closer the cops get, the more dramatic the music becomes. When you evade the cops the music reaches a climax but returns to a dramatic tone as soon as a cop spots you again. The changes in music are very accurate and EA has done a great job in creating the right atmosphere during these lightning-speed chases.

There are so many other great features in this game, but mentioning them all in one article is just not practical. Need For Speed Most Wanted is a blend of all the great features of previous titles and more. Great graphics, a great storyline with great actors like Josie Maran, great music and great cars. All these factors make the game the Most Wanted game of the year.

What is the Xbox? It is a sixth generation era console used for video game playing made by Microsoft Corporation. It directly competes with Sony's PlayStation 2, and in an indirect way with the Nintendo GameCube. It was launched on November 15, 2001 in America and in 2002 in Europe, Japan and Australia.

Thanks to all those new gadgets and technological inventions we, the gamers, are saved from boredom and playing the same games over and over again. And most important we can always replay or favorite one, though it was launched 5 years ago.
